Metronome · iOS & Android
A click under your music.
Underbeat plays alongside whatever is already playing — Spotify, Apple Music, a podcast — instead of interrupting it. Built for musicians practising to recorded tracks and for runners holding a cadence against a playlist.

Support
A real person answers these. If something is broken, confusing, or missing, tell us — it is a small enough product that your message actually changes it.
The click is too quiet under my music
By design, the click volume is an attenuator only: it can never play louder than your music. That is what lets Underbeat sit under a track without ducking or pausing it. Open the group editor, push the click volume to its end-stop, and then turn your music down instead — the click stays where it is while the track drops away from it.
Underbeat stopped my music
It shouldn't — the app uses a mixable audio session and never takes audio focus from another player. If your music paused when the click started, tell us which player and which phone you were using, because that is a bug on our side, not a setting on yours.
The click lags behind on Bluetooth headphones
Wireless audio adds latency, and how much depends on the codec and the headphones. The spacing between clicks stays accurate — the whole grid simply arrives a little late. If you are recording or playing along with someone else in the room, use wired headphones or the speaker.
What are groups, and why two of them?
A group is a context, not a mode. Switching between Music and Running swaps the preset list, the click sound and the click volume — nothing else changes. Running wants a sharp click that cuts through wind and a different set of cadences; practice wants a softer one. You can rename either group and set its sound and volume in the group editor.
Can I change tempo without unlocking my phone?
Yes. The lock screen carries the same three controls everywhere — −5 BPM, stop, +5 BPM — as a Live Activity on iOS and a media notification on Android. For runners that is the primary interface; the app itself is the thing you set up before you start.
The click stops when the screen locks
It is meant to keep playing with the screen off. On Android, some manufacturers kill background audio aggressively — exempt Underbeat from battery optimisation in your system settings. If it still stops, send us your phone model and OS version. There is also a “keep screen awake” switch in Settings if you would rather the display stayed on.
Where are subdivisions, a tuner, or interval timers?
Deliberately absent. Underbeat is one screen that does one thing well: a steady click at a tempo you can change without looking. Those features are how metronome apps become unusable at arm's length in a dim room, so they are out of scope rather than merely unbuilt.
Will my presets survive a new phone?
Groups, presets and settings are stored on the device, so a standard device-to-device transfer or a restored system backup usually carries them over. There is no account and no server copy, so if the phone is lost the presets go with it — happily, they are a handful of numbers you can re-enter in a minute.
Which languages and devices?
English and Romanian at launch, iOS and Android, portrait only. If your language matters to you, ask — translations are cheap once the app is built to expect them, and it is.
Reporting a bug
Send us what happened, what you expected, your phone model, OS version and the app version from Settings → About. For timing problems, tell us the BPM, the time signature, the sound, and whether you were on speaker, wired or Bluetooth — those four facts decide almost every audio bug. Nothing is reported automatically, so a bug we aren't told about is a bug we don't know exists.
Privacy Policy
Effective 2 September 2026 · Applies to the Underbeat mobile app and this page.
The short version
- Underbeat works entirely on your device. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server.
- Nothing you do in the app leaves your phone — not your tempos, not your presets, not how long you played.
- No analytics, no trackers, no advertising, no third-party SDKs collecting anything.
- The app asks for no microphone access, no location, no contacts, and no network permission it needs to function.
1. Who we are
Underbeat is published by DAH Optim Consulting SRL, Romania (“we”, “us”). For anything in this policy, write to [email protected].
2. What the app stores, and where
Underbeat keeps a small amount of state in its own private storage on your phone: your groups and their names, the click sound and volume for each, your presets (name, BPM, time signature), your settings, and the tempo you last used.
That is the whole list, and none of it is uploaded or synchronised. There is no “our servers” in this sentence, because there are none. We do not know that you use the app, when you use it, or what you play.
3. Your music
Underbeat plays a click through a mixable audio session so that other apps can keep playing at the same time. It does not read your library, does not know what is playing, does not listen through the microphone, and does not control your music player. It only adds sound of its own.
4. Permissions
- Notifications — only to show the lock-screen controls (BPM, stop, ±5) while the click is running. They are created on your device; there is no push server, and we never send marketing notifications.
- Background audio — so the click keeps playing with the screen off, which is the point of the app for a runner.
- Nothing else — no microphone, no camera, no location, no contacts, no photo library.
5. What we actually receive
- Support correspondence. If you email us, we hold your address, your message and anything you attach, for as long as needed to help you and to keep a record of the exchange.
- App Store reporting. Apple and Google give us aggregated, anonymous statistics about downloads and crashes. These come from the store, not from the app, and cannot identify you.
6. Device backups
If iCloud Backup or Google backup is switched on for your phone, your operating system may include Underbeat's stored settings in that backup. That is your device's backup, governed by Apple's or Google's terms — not ours, and still not visible to us.
7. Legal bases and your rights
The app itself processes no personal data on our behalf, because it sends us none. Where we do process personal data — your support emails, and this website — the legal bases under the GDPR are your consent in contacting us and our legitimate interest in running and supporting the product. Website server logs, if any, are handled by our hosting provider for security and reliability.
You may request access to, correction of, or erasure of personal data we hold about you, object to or restrict processing, and request portability; write to us and we will respond within one month. You may also complain to a supervisory authority — in Romania, the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP).
8. Children
Underbeat is safe for anyone to use: it has no account, no messaging, no social features, no advertising and no data collection. It is not directed at children specifically, and it collects nothing from anyone regardless of age.
9. Deleting everything
Delete the app and its stored settings go with it, permanently. There is no copy anywhere for us to remove on your behalf. To have support correspondence erased, email us.
10. Changes
If this policy changes we will update the effective date above and, for anything material, say so in the app. Previous versions are available on request.
